‘Setting the Stage?’

Setting the Stage?
The beginning of unprecedented and massive Israeli military manoeuvres.

Sunday, 6 April 2008. Today Israeli forces begin military manoeuvres so extensive that the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) warned the Lebanese Army. PM Siniora, concerned over further Israeli violations of UNSC 1701, requested both UNIFIL and the Lebanese Army remain on high alert.

In addition to the military manoeuvres, Israeli forces have begun a five-day nationwide exercise simulating air and missile attacks. During the “drill” emergency sirens will be sounded and schoolchildren will practice entering shelters and protected spaces. For the first time, there will be TV broadcasts instructing viewers how to act during an attack by either conventional or non-conventional weapons.

Whetting the public appetite for more aggressive wars. Coaching the military forces to toughen up. Let there be no mistake: Israeli forces have initiated every attack on Lebanon over the last sixty years. The world is watching. The question is whether the world will have the courage to say this aggression will not be allowed, not again.
